Collection: About Us

The United Crowns Mobile Museum of Black History & Culture

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your keen interest in the United Crowns Mobile Black History Museum. Our mobile museum is a treasure trove, boasting a remarkable collection of over 1,000 original African American historical artifacts and memorabilia. These artifacts span the eras, from the Transatlantic slave trade to the present day. This traveling exhibit is a vivid tribute to the rich tapestry of Black history, culture, and achievements that we, as a people, have woven.

Our journey has taken us to six states, where we have had the privilege of sharing this captivating narrative with over 8,000 of visitors. Our exhibitions have graced a diverse array of spaces, including K-12 schools, corporations, nonprofit organizations, summer camps, and cultural events. The impact we've had in these communities is immeasurable.

The United Crowns Mobile Museum of Black History & Culture serves as a beacon, illuminating the brilliance of Black culture for a wide range of audiences. In a world where media narratives often focus on the negatives, perpetuating stereotypes of poverty, drugs, incarceration, and lack of education, our museum offers a refreshing perspective. We pivot towards celebrating the success stories of Black business leaders, poets, musicians, scientists, philanthropists, and artists. Through this, we aim to counter the unfair depiction of Black Americans in the media and bring forth a more positive and accurate portrayal.

Our mobile museum is not just a repository of artifacts; it is a platform for honoring Black leaders who have weathered hardships and made monumental contributions to various fields. We believe in acknowledging the unsung heroes who have shaped the realms of science, innovation, and the economy. Their achievements deserve their rightful place in history.

Perhaps most importantly, our mobile museum serves as an invaluable educational resource for our children. It supplements their understanding of history, offering insights they may not encounter in their everyday school curriculum. By challenging existing historical narratives, we empower our youth to delve deeper into the past and uncover untold stories.

We wholeheartedly urge you to invest a few precious moments in watching our enlightening interview with The Fan Club Project. In the words of President Gerald Ford, who expanded Negro History Week into a full month in 1976, "seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history." These words remain as pertinent today as they were nearly half a century ago.

Dr. Tracy P. Washington, our esteemed Museum Curator, stands ready to host lectures on the African American experience in the United States, spanning from 1619 to the present year, 2023. Each lecture is meticulously tailored to suit the unique needs and demographics of your organization.

The United Crowns Mobile Museum of Black History & Culture’s logo is deeply rooted in ancient African symbolism and heritage, serving as a testament to the enduring power and pride of our ancestors.

Our logo holds profound significance, embodying our family values, mission, vision, and the guiding principles that shape our organization.

At its heart, we have incorporated Adinkra symbols from Ghana as a tribute to our ancestors, infusing our organization with purpose, focus, and a deep connection to our African roots. Adinkra symbols, originating from Ghana, are powerful representations of concepts and wisdom passed down through generations. Used extensively in fabrics, logos, and pottery, these symbols serve not only a decorative function but also convey messages of traditional wisdom, life’s complexities, and the environment.

The circular design of our logo holds sacred meaning in African culture, symbolizing interconnectedness and holism; principles central to our mission. At the top of the logo, we honor the African American Heritage Flag, created by Melvin Charles and Gleason T. Jackson in 1967.

The gold-colored blunted sword represents a dual concept: pride and the wisdom to know when to turn the sword into a tool for nurturing the earth. The gold wreath symbolizes peace, prosperity, and everlasting life. Encircling the logo are images of Mother Africa, paying homage to our ancestral homeland and embracing her within the circle of unity and love.

Our organization was founded in 2020 in the wake of the tragic murder of Mr. Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man who was senselessly killed while jogging in Brunswick, Georgia. This event fueled our commitment to honor and uplift the legacy of Black history, culture and life.

The colors of our logo, navy blue, old gold, and white, carry deep symbolic meaning. They represent wealth, elegance, tradition, stability, reliability, sophistication, perfection, honesty, and new beginnings.

These colors also honor the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers, the courageous African American regiments in the U.S. Army who fought valiantly in every American war from 1866 to the Korean War. The nickname "Buffalo Soldier" was bestowed upon them by American Plains Indians, who admired their fierce fighting spirit and compared their dark, curly hair to the matted cushion between a buffalo's horns.

In every aspect, our logo is a powerful expression of African pride, Black pride, and the enduring spirit of the Black Power Movement, standing as a symbol of our collective strength, resilience, and unity.
